Analysis of Solid F

Test Procedure

You are provided with solid F. Carry out the tests below. Write your observations and inferences in the spaces provided below.

  • (a)
      (i)Place solid F in a boiling tube and add about 10cm3 of distilled. Filter and divide the filtrate into four portions. Keep the residue for part b
    • (ii)To the 1st portion, add sodium hydroxide dropwise till in excess
    • (iii)To the 2nd portion, add ammonia solution dropwise till in excess
    • (iv) To the 3rd portion, add few drops of lead (ii) nitrate
    • (v) To the 4th portion, add few drops of barium nitrate solution
  • (b) Put the residue in a clean boiling tube and add nitric (v) acid little by little until it just dissolves. Divide the solutions into two portions
    • (i)To the 1st portion, add sodium hydroxide dropwise till in excess
    • (ii)To the 2nd portion, add ammonium solution dropwise till in excess
